SHOULD I REPLACE OR REPAIR MY EXISTING AIR CONDITIONER?

Many of our customers wonder if AC installation is more economical than AC repair. Although there is no easy answer, there are several aspects to consider in the overall equation:

HOW OLD IS YOUR AIR CONDITIONER?

A cooling system that’s ten years or older is on the verge of the end of its typical lifespan. Although it works fine now, it may become more likely to break down within a few years.

DOES YOUR AC REQUIRE FREQUENT REPAIRS?

Like a car, the older the unit, the more likely it is to require costly repairs on a regular basis.

HAS YOUR AIR CONDITIONER BEEN POORLY MAINTAINED?

Nothing destroys an air conditioner, even a young air conditioner, faster than a shortage of annual maintenance. Lack of maintenance can also make the system work harder, causing utility bills to rise.
If your air conditioner has these characteristics and no longer works like it should, replacement will almost always be the best choice. Not only can you avoid AC breakdown in the middle of summer, you’ll also be able to see lower utility bills from the start with a more energy efficient system.

On the other hand, an air conditioner that’s undergone regular maintenance, is less than ten years old and hasn’t required many repairs is worth hanging on to. Just be sure to keep the air filter clean and to schedule air conditioner maintenance every spring.
